The BJP won 48 seats in the recent Delhi General assembly election held on 5th of February 2025. While the AAP won only 28 seats so could not form the government. Out of the 48 Bharatiya Janata Party winners , 9 are from the Bania Community. The Bharatiya Janata party has announced the new CM as Rekha Gupta (age 50) after defeating Aam Aadmi Party Previous CM Arvin Kejriwal. She will now become the leader of the Delhi legislative party. She had sworn as the Chief Minister of Delhi at Ramila Maidan today, i.e 20th February 2025. On this path-taking ceremony, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi , Union Home Minitister and other member also participated. Thta is to say that it is after 27 years the BJP came back to legislature in the Delhi.
If we talk about the political background of Ms Rekha Gupta, she is a first-time MLA. She used to be a former president and general secretary of the DUSU (Delhi University Students Union). She started her career in politics in 1992 where she became the DUSU president. Then in the year 2007, she was elected as the councillor of the north Pitampura, and in 2012 she also became the mayor of the south Delhi municipal corporation. After this in the year 2025, she won the general assembly election seat from the Shalimar Bagh constituency by securing total votes of 68,200.
